I suspect Kevin McAllister was a mutant, with his ability to construct all of those traps in an hour.

In fact, I'm guessing the burglars are too, considering the way they were able to withstand being injured like that. The paint cans alone would be devastating.

I always thought they were using cartoon logic, but mutant is also a good explanation.

Cartoon logic also works. I tend to over analyize things when it comes to injuries in movies.
