getting permission for this sort of thing takes so much more effort than it used to. I blame Nate.

But, at any rate, permission has been granted for a small field trip this weekend to DC. While it will be smaller (and, I've promised Charles, less riot-filled) than the UN Summit, a number of lectures, debates, discussions and "series of talking points and sound bites disguised as actual lectures" on "the mutant issue" (isn't that nice, we've been downgraded from a problem to an issue) will be going on all weekend. I've been invited to join a round table discussion on Education and the Mutant Issue (and I think the organizers think I'm in favor of completely segregated education... aren't they in for a surprise?), and I know that the NCAA is hosting a lecture on Mutation and the College Athlete. There's also going to be an equal rights debate (mainly focused on the workplace but likely to wander into other territory) which in theory will have an open mic for questions to the speakers (assuming people don't get out of line), and several other events I think you guys will be interested in.

This field trip is open to all of you, students and graduates alike, but please let me know if you want to come. Charles and I will have to make reservations and if there are too many of you I'm going to have to start browbeating requesting chaperoning help from the other staff.

In. So in.

Same here. Fieldtrip? Excellent. A lecture on mutation and athleticism? Even better. It's like the universe is just handing me my independant project. I'll be brushing up on annotation from a living source, then.

Speaking of which, where's that progress report on your research?

In that cesspit of madness you call your Inbox. I left it there Thursday afternoon. No doubt it remains there still -- although by now it may have spawned several new, genetically superior variant-reports.

Do not mock the inbox, or I'll feed you to it.

After getting bounced off Medlab wall by Mr. Marko, your inbox holds no terrors for me. Great tedium, possibly, but definitely no terror.

Glad to have you on board, then. I'll add you to the list.

I was so hoping you'd say that.

Like you could keep me away from this offer.

Well, one doesn't like to assume these things.

Will do, Doug.

Doug, would you be terribly put out with me if I stayed in for this? Neither politics nor professional sports are of a terrible amount of interest to me.

The discussions will cover far more than just professional sports, but I can quite understand American politics not interesting you, Marie-Ange. Have a good weekend.

Smartass.

I'd volunteer to help chaperone but I think you want to keep me far, far away from any sort of field trip. I am jinxed, after all.

From: [identity profile] x-jeangrey.livejournal.com
You are, in fact, expressly not allowed to come. Scott said so.

Even though it is starting to look like I'm going to need to shanghai myself a second chaperone.

I should be available, if there truly is need.

I don't know about truly there being need, but if you'd have any interest you're more than welcome to come.

-smiles- I should introduce you to one of my friends in DC. Getting non-physically enhanced mutants a right to fair treatment in sports is a pet project of hers.

Much as I'd like to attend, I can't. Why must you always schedule the interesting things when I'm not around?

From: [identity profile] x-jeangrey.livejournal.com
We actually plot these things out, you know. The meetings are all, "Oh, look, Lorna's gone. Let's do something cool!"

Or, you know, it might be that you go to school on the other side of the country. One of the two.

I think it's the first one. Meanie.

Bah, you're clearly just paranoid.

Date: 2006-02-20 08:37 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] x-polarisstar.livejournal.com
It's not paranoia if they really are out to get you!

Date: 2006-02-20 08:40 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] x-jeangrey.livejournal.com
If we were out to get you there would be more going out, and possibly visiting of nice, warm, sunny beaches and lying around in small swimsuits and actually, why aren't we out to get you? Or at least to see you?

Obviously you're biding your time. Lulling me into a false sense of security.

But I'm ON to you!

Date: 2006-02-20 10:40 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] x-jeangrey.livejournal.com
Ah, well, so long as we've got a good reason, then. Although if you're on to us it can't be a very good false sense of security. Maybe the sense of security is real and it's a false sense of paranoia. Did you ever think of that?

Date: 2006-02-20 11:11 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] x-polarisstar.livejournal.com
Oh, no, you don't get me that easy, Grey.

Date: 2006-02-20 11:30 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] x-jeangrey.livejournal.com
Who, me? You think I'm up to something? Definitely that false sense of paranoia talking.

Date: 2006-02-20 11:48 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] x-polarisstar.livejournal.com
I am looking suspiciously in your direction. Which, granted is just a vague easterly suspicious look and now Lilli thinks I want to play with her.

Curse you!

Date: 2006-02-21 02:39 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] x-jeangrey.livejournal.com
No, see, if I took this opportunity to cackle maniacally, you'd think you had cuase for your paranoia. Which you don't. Cause there's no cackling.

You caused my dog to attack my slipper. I call that suspicious.

I had nothing to do with your puppy. She decided to do so because you were being all falsely paranoid. Not my fault.

That's just what you want me to think.

Of course there is. There's even room for more than one of you, if any of the talks you want to attend have conflicting schedules. But you only get one room at the hotel.
