Well, obviously, if you were at breakfast, you already know that I'm home. Hello all, it's good to be back. Tibet was... nice. Very quiet. I've actually been back for a few days, but there was a certain amount of reacquainting myself I needed to do with things like central heat and running water, not to mention that I hadn't seen my husband in months, but now I'm feeling more sorted and thought I should leave the suite. Tried this morning, as those of you who were at breakfast know, and then I had to go lock myself away from the noise for a bit longer. Did I mention that Tibet was very quiet? In comparison, you lot are a stampeding herd of trumpeting elephants. But you're my stampeding herd of trumpeting elephants, and it's good to be home.

And, actually, I've just gone over the class register and it looks like we have several new students. My apologies, you're probably very confused. Hello, I'm Dr. Jean Grey-Summers. I'm one of the teachers here, but I've been on a spiritual sort of finding quest in Tibet for the last for months. I'm home now, and you can look forward to seeing me in your science classes next term and, if the formidable Amelia can be convinced to release her stranglehold on the medlab schedules, you will also have more options there that don't involve a bedside manner straight from soviet Russia.

It really is good to be home.

Welcome back, Dr. Grey. And here I was trying to figure out how to diplomatically ask your husband how long we should keep your security codes active...

Thank you. Glad you put it off. :)

I just realized this deprives us of the ritual Resetting of Accesses that usually marks homecoming. That seems vaguely wrong.

I just got done reconfiguring remote access for Dr. MacTaggart and Paige for the Muir network, if I spend any MORE time with that damn security program Kitty put together, I'm going to scream.

There's such a thing as OVERcommenting your code, s'all I'm saying.

There's also such a thing as undercommenting, Captain Not Everyone Has Instinctive Understanding Like Us.

Totally true, but there's practically an entire Dostoyevsky novel encased in comment brackets here...

Are you sure it's Kitty's? :)

The only thing worse than an overly verbose programmer is TWO overly verbose programmers...

Ha ha.

I will say this, were it not for the fact that I happen to be fluent in Incredibly Complicated Algorithm, this would actually be a headache.

Speaking of which, I was bored this morning and built an Enigma machine. Want to come over and try and see how long it takes to break it?

In her defense, she did learn from Hank. The man does not believe there is such a thing as 'overly verbose'.

Ah well, I've already done that one twice, I can live without it this time.

Well, well, well, look what the jet dragged in.

Welcome back, Jean. Steal my chart from Amelia ASAP please. She scares me.

Indeed, and those trans-continental flights are killer.

I'll work on that; I think scaring people is one of the things she does best.

At least you got to skip customs, that's a plus.

You'd think she found it deeply offensive that I was starving myself for no good reason or something. *shakes head*

Definitely a plus - Chinese passport control is scary, and nobody likes it when you've just come from Tibet.

I know, some doctors are just funny that way.

Also the food is terrible on commercial flights.

That's what I'm saying!

Very, very true. Not that the MREs the jet stocks are that much better, but you don't have to put up with cranky stewardessess. Unless you count Logan. Heh.

Mind, being upfront and straightforward about it with me now isn't going to save you from having this conversation again with details once I have rescued your file...

Does Logan do the 'when airmasks come down put them on yourself first then help others' speech?

Damnit.

Hah. No. Alas. Although I wonder if he could be bribed to do it for a camera. Modern airlines all have those stupid little videos, and we could make one for the Jet! "In the event of an emergency water landing, Cain can not be used as a flotation device."

I may still be suffering from the time zone change a bit.

Yes, exactly! But no making bringing drinks on board illegal. I was just reading about that on bbc.com. That's a new level of stupid.

(Scott's going to be cranky if he wakes up and catches me out here. But it's not my fault my body thinks it's a little after noon and time to rake the garden.)

Oh no, Scott cranky? Why that would be new and novel and not at all like anything he's been in the last five months.

Date: 2006-12-01 10:17 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] x-jeangrey.livejournal.com
Ah, but I haven't seen him in five months, and there's been a definite lack of cranky since I got here.

Well, duh. He likes you.

I wondered why Summers was sticking so close to his suite yesterday. Here I thought he was turning into as much of a hermit as me.

Not specifically; you're usually just a little more visible, that's all. All is now explained.

Welcome back, Jean. You should stop down by the boathouse when Moira and Ray are back - she's gotten enormous. (The baby, not Moira. Oh, now she's going to hit me when she reads this...)

Welcome back, Dr. Grey. Is living up with the monks in Tibet like the movies say it is?

Date: 2006-12-01 03:27 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] x-jeangrey.livejournal.com
Well, I didn't see Brad Pitt, and real Tibetan monks don't come with subtitles, so, no.
